I found German artist Thorsten Brinkmann while perusing Juxtapoz magazine's website and I was taken aback by his work. Brinkmann is not only the mind behind the lens and the conceptualization, but he is also the man behind the mask in all of his photos- he is his own model, which of course you would never know by looking at the images considering no face is ever shown. At first glance his photos are rather shocking, and then it starts to dawn on you that the photos are really more simplistic and elegant than they appear. His style mixes classic with modern in a way that makes you wonder about the thought process behind each piece. It really is mastery of a new medium: fashion photography meets 18th-century painting meets the flea market.
