Naturally 7 does Herbie Hancock

Naturally 7 with the sickness! I'm amazed at this rendition of Rockit by Naturally 7 as tribute to Herbie Hancock at the 2011 BET Honors. I didn't catch the awards show but I saw a clip of this and had to seek out the full video. So sick!

Amazed by nature

Some of my fiercest inspirations come from simply walking around the neighborhood. This paint-splattered fence, highlighted beautifully by the shadow of a tree, was no exception. The scenario reminds me of a phrase I used to describe myself in an 'about-me' type of school assignment: Amazed by Nature. Meaning not only am I perpetually amazed by the beauty I see around me, but also that I'm just naturally impressed.

Like it, Hype it?

I like to hype on lookbook. Its a lot of fun to see styles from around the world and even more interesting to see your overall group of 'looks you like.' If you lookbook too long then everyone's looks start to blend together, but every so often you find a stunning photo showcasing an awesome look like this one:

Sweater Vestin'

I just posted my very first Lookbook look wearing this super-sized men's sweater vest. I've been meaning to do a post about this item in all its glory, so now that its shown here I figured I would just add a few close-ups to the mix. I can't find the self-timer on my camera, so when my boyfriend isn't around I use my laptop's webcam to take pics. Result- low quality shots. Anyway, I can't get enough of this vest because not only is it great dress length but it looks slightly like a cape. And I've always wanted a cape.

What I'm wearing: old black longsleeve, thrifted men's size 5XL sweater vest, thrifted leather belt, target booties (pictured below), F21 beaded necklace, thrifted turquoise and gold necklace

Irregular Choice ss 2011 by the Wildfox Sisters

There are so many things I love about these Irregular Choice spring/summer 2011 collection photos shot by the Wildfox sisters that it deserves a whole post instead of my usual one-photo tumblr post. Beside the fact that I'm OBSESSED with the collection of pretty, playful heels, I also appreciate the simple styling. Instead of following trend and slapping some ankle socks on they kept it clean, allowing you to focus on the amazingness of the shoes.

The icing on the cake for me is the use of an ever-too-familiar hometown staple piece. I'm a Berkeley baby through and through, and this pairing of a Cal sweatshirt with the baby pink lingerie and quilted-looking heels is oddly reminiscent of my childhood.

My birthday is coming up at the end of the month and a pair of these is at the top of my wish list. In the meantime I'm having fun wandering around the equally-playful and kitschy Irregular Choice website.

Art by Thorsten Brinkmann

I found German artist Thorsten Brinkmann while perusing Juxtapoz magazine's website and I was taken aback by his work. Brinkmann is not only the mind behind the lens and the conceptualization, but he is also the man behind the mask in all of his photos- he is his own model, which of course you would never know by looking at the images considering no face is ever shown. At first glance his photos are rather shocking, and then it starts to dawn on you that the photos are really more simplistic and elegant than they appear. His style mixes classic with modern in a way that makes you wonder about the thought process behind each piece. It really is mastery of a new medium: fashion photography meets 18th-century painting meets the flea market.
